The theme of this story is that despite hardships and tragedies, there is always something good that comes out of it. Sadako was able to make 644 cranes. Her family and friends made the remaining cranes to fulfill her wishes. There was unity. The thousand cranes have become a symbol of hope for generations to come. A statue of Sadako holding the golden crane reminds us all about the past and the glimmer of hope given to a girl to help her fight the pain.
